The Certification Exam (NNAAP)

After completing training, students must pass the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP), which includes:

  • A written or oral exam

  • A skills demonstration exam

Candidates must pass both parts to be placed on the California Nurse Aide Registry and receive their CNA certificate.

Receiving Your CNA Certificate

Once you pass the NNAAP exam:

  • Your name is added to the ATCS (Aide and Technician Certification Section) Registry

  • You receive a CNA certificate number

  • You are eligible to work as a CNA anywhere in California

Employers can verify your certification through the CDPH registry.
